It’s Okay to Throw!!! Embracing Play Schemas as the NEEDS They Are

At the core of the behaviors adults deem as “unwanted” lies a need that is not met. Unfortunately, many of the needs children have also been erroneously labeled as “bad behavior” and are addressed as such. This hour is dedicated to the identification of Piaget’s and Athey’s Play Schemas and the sharing of material ideas/environments that meet the wide variety of play schema needs. Participants will leave understanding that it is OKAY TO THROW, TO DUMP, TO DESTROY (to name a few)… and how to provide safe opportunities for children to do so.
