“Trauma & Toxic Stress and Substance Use Disorders: Oh My! An Early Childhood Guide to Hope”

How does living with toxic stress and trauma impact brain development and learning? We’ll be looking at the neuroscience of trauma, and the specific example of family substance use disorder (also known as alcoholism and addiction), which impacts 1 in 4 children. We’ll then discuss what we can do to counteract the impact on children, while sticking to our areas of expertise, including social emotional development, play, and family connections. (Note: this workshop starts with the premise that we often don’t know which kids are experiencing these challenges, so the strategies are ones that will support all children.)
